Die Körbe und Schalen von „Bwindi Handmade Crafts“ werden in sorgfältiger Handarbeit aus zwei verschiedenen, lokal wachsenden Grasarten gefertigt. Beide werden nachhaltig in der Nähe der Dörfer am Rand des Bwindi Impenetrable Nationalparks gesammelt.
Das robuste Eshingye (Hirschgras) bildet die stabile Grundlage der Körbe und sorgt dafür, dass sie dauerhaft ihre Form behalten. Für die kunstvollen Muster und feinen Verzierungen verwenden die Kunsthandwerkerinnen das weichere Obuhivu (Raffiabast), das sich besonders gut flechten lässt.
Obuhivu wird entweder in seinem natürlichen, warmen Beigeton verarbeitet oder mit traditionellen, natürlichen Farbstoffen aus Wurzeln, Blättern und Kräutern gefärbt. So entstehen harmonische Farben und einzigartige Muster, die jedes Stück zu einem unverwechselbaren Unikat machen.
Jeder Korb und jede Schale erzählt die Geschichte traditioneller Handwerkskunst und verbindet zeitloses Design mit der Schönheit der Natur Ugandas.
