Each piece is unique
The baskets and bowls from ‘Bwindi Handmade Crafts’ are carefully handcrafted from two different types of locally grown grass. Both grasses are gathered near the villages on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
The robust Eshingye (deer grass) forms the sturdy base of the baskets and ensures they retain their shape over time. For the intricate patterns and delicate decorations, the craftswomen use the softer Obuhivu (raffia), which is particularly easy to weave.
