Did you know
Thanks to the proceeds from the sale of our JIKONI T-shirt and a crowdfunding campaign, Kipepeo Clothing built a new kitchen block at Mbondoni School in 2023. The JIKONI designs were also painted onto the building in collaboration with the pupils.
Production
Like every Kipepeo T-shirt, the JIKONI T-shirt is produced over a distance of just 600 km by owner-managed family businesses in Tanzania and Kenya: the organically grown cotton is cultivated in Singida (Tanzania) on small-scale rain-fed farms, without artificial irrigation, and is harvested by hand. In Tanzania, this cotton is knitted into a high-quality, slightly heavier jersey fabric and dyed to our specifications in a beautiful marsala shade. The fabric is then transformed into a T-shirt of artisanal quality in our small sewing workshop in Nairobi, where it is cut, sewn and printed by hand using water-based screen-printing inks.
